Engineering Designer

We are seeking an Engineering Designer!

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE:

Provide technical and functional support to the Operations team, relating to continuous improvement of processing, equipment, tooling and fixtures while adhering to Safety, Quality, Delivery and Costs metrics. The role requires collaboration with project managers, production SFAs, production supervisors, all engineering support staff, IT, GSS, and counterparts within Douglas Dynamics.

HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

  • Work with Engineering & Operations to identify and implement manufacturing process improvements including the designing or modifying of assembly, material handling processes, tools, fixtures, gauges or other equipment.

  • Assist in the design, testing and performance validation of prototypes which includes internal lab testing as well as external field testing.

  • Produce detailed drawings on CAD and check tolerances and clearances, complete detailed drawings following company standards with minimal guidance.

  • Participate in cross-functional teams to ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of safety processes, methods, productivity and quality, while reducing costs.

  • Read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical drawings, schematics, technical bulletins and government regulations.

  • Write and assist with training in Job Instructions as required.

  • Assist in creating product literature.

  • Maintain version control and proper documentation of design files and revisions.

  • Prepare documentation, drawings, and bills of materials for fabrication, construction, or installation.

  • Support all 5S and other Lean activities.

  • Create design calculations, material selections, and cost estimations.

  • Complete other reasonably related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

Education:

  • Associates degree, or working towards an associate’s degree, preferably in an engineering discipline
  • 5 years + of progressively responsible experience
  • A combination of education and experience

Communication Skills:

  • Communicate effectively with other employees at all locations. Sound interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.

Technology/Equipment:

  • Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.).
  • Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.)
  • Experience with virtual meeting technology
  • Knowledge and/or experience in engineering practices including welding, manual and CNC machining and profiling

Additional Skills:

  • Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Proficient in ability to communicate broadly and effectively to employees at all levels or the organization.
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Able to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry.
  • Able to read and interpret drawings, schematics, electrical and mechanical blueprints, technical bulletins and procedure, or government regulations.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to safely and effectively problem solve in the office and on the shop floor.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequently required to sit, stand, climb ladders, work with computer keyboards, telephone, power tools, and welding equipment.

Work Environment:
