Engineer I

JOB SUMMARY: Ensures the completion of engineering projects on time and on budget with limited guidance from senior engineering personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Task related guidance will be provided by senior level personnel who are leading projects
  1. Read and interpret electrical, hydraulic and mechanical drawings, schematics, technical bulletins and government regulations
  1. Utilize (3P, 5S, DFMEA, PFMEA, Kaizen events) tools to eliminate waste, improve operations, and launch new products
  1. Assist in the design, production, testing and performance validation of prototypes which includes internal lab testing as well as external field testing
  1. Produce product and fixture drawings, and facility layouts on CAD, check product tolerances and clearances, complete detailed drawings following company standards without guidance
  1. Complete and maintain all required reports such as engineering reports, test reports and development plans
  1. Ensure new designs and processes meet or exceed company/customer standards for safety, quality, performance, reliability, manufacturability and cost
  1. Effectively engage plant supervision to support production improvements, assist in the resolution of complex/unusual production problems, introduce new tooling, gauges, fixtures and equipment
  1. Enter, check, maintain and complete complex BOMs, and ECNs, write job instructions and standard work documents, coordinate changes and train affected departments
  1. Assist in creating product literature including owners manuals, parts lists, installation instructions and mechanics guides
  1. Provide engineering expertise in cross functional teams to ensure the ongoing improvement of product quality, error proofing of processes, and productivity improvements while reducing cost

 

OTHER DUTIES:

  1. Participate in Kaizen / 3P events
  2. Maintain 5S culture

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

Education:

B.S. in ME, MET, EE, EET or AgE , 0-5 years experience. Preferred experience with: DFMEA, PMFEA, PPAP, RC/CA, VOC, HOQ

Communication Skills:

Speak and hear or communicate effectively with other employees at all locations. Communicate effectively on: complex issues, specifications with vendors, technical issues with customers and other employees. Must be highly effective in a team environment.

Technical Skills:

Metal fabrication, welding, hands-on mechanical aptitude. Ability to safely and effectively operate common hand, power, and machine tools to produce prototype parts to specifications. Familiarity with manufacturing processes and materials including plastics. Diagnostics of electrical and hydraulics systems.

Computer Skills:

Working knowledge of Solidworks, Solidworks Simulation, Microsoft suite of products. Experience using data acquisition equipment desirable.

Mathematical Skills:

Apply concepts of probability, statistical inference, trigonometry, and complex concepts of algebra and geometry. Understanding of advanced math, calculus, advanced graphing and charting, logarithmic.

Reasoning Ability:

Solve practical problems and understand technical problems involving known variables in non-standard situations.

Physical Demands:

Frequently required to sit, use hands in fine motor skills, use a computer and phone

Work Environment:

Vision: close and distance focus, depth perception, adjust focus, color discrimination, peripheral vision. Occasional overtime, travel by plane or car to overnight locations
