JOB TITLE:              Engineer I                                                       DEPT:  Engineering

REPORTS TO:         Engineering Manager                                      STATUS:  Exempt

 

JOB SUMMARY:    Primary responsibilities include typical Engineering I functions of product design, production support, manufacturing engineering support, and continuous improvement. Additional responsibilities of this role may include opportunities to be part of core teams for new product development projects and be assigned to manage improvement projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Support production activities through participation in 3P, 5S, Kaizen, activities.
  2. Use DDMS tools throughout the plant to eliminate waste and improve operations.
  3. Utilize SolidWorks software to generate tooling, fixtures, gauges, plant layouts, product designs, and equipment drawings using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing as required.
  4. Fabricate items as required using fabrication, welding and machining skills.
  5. Assist in the implementation of Standardized Work in all areas of the plant. Assist with Job Instruction Preparation.
  6. Work with plant supervision to support production improvements through time studies, training of personnel, auditing of personnel and supply feedback as required.
  7. Specify and introduce new technologies, methodologies, processes, tooling, gauges, fixtures and equipment to improve processes, plant performance and reduce costs.
  8. Write technical reports, product literature including owner’s manuals, parts lists, installation instructions, and Job instructions to document test results, product function, or production processes.
  9. Improve customer relations and resolve quality issues through involvement with team problem solving and technical support.
  10. Improve technical teams through the use of standard work, training, and personnel development.
  11. Work with staff at other DD locations to share best practices and resources as required.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

Education: 

Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology, Strong oral and written communication skills, Preferred experience with:  DFMEA, PMFEA, PPAP, FEA,SPC, Control Plans

Communication Skills:Communicate effectively with other employees at all locations.  Sound interpersonal and leadership skills. Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization

Technical Skills:  Metal fabrication, welding, hands-on mechanical aptitude.  Ability to safely and effectively operate common hand, power, and machine tools to produce prototype parts to specifications.  Familiarity with manufacturing processes and materials including plastics.  Diagnostics of electrical and hydraulics systems.

Computer Skills:  Working knowledge of SolidWorks, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.  TCM/PDC Experience using data acquisition equipment desirable.

Mathematical Skills:  Understand and able to use trigonometry, and complex concepts of algebra and geometry as required.  Understanding of advanced math, calculus, advanced graphing and charting.

Reasoning Ability:  Solve practical problems and understand technical problems involving known variables in non-standard situations.
